A West Point woman found July 9 unconscious and injured next to a homicide victim in West Point was released Wednesday from a Modesto-area hospital, according to Sgt. Chris Hewitt of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
Jessica Susan Elder, 37, was found shot in the head at a ranchette on the 200 block of Stanley Road. She survived, but a man identified as her boyfriend by several people, Norman C. Gresham III, 47, was found dead of a gunshot wound.
Elder could not be reached for an interview.
However, her Facebook page indicates she works as a self-employed paralegal in Calaveras County.
A Calaveras County man, Gary Fielden McMahan, 31, was arrested last Thursday in Sacramento and is a “person of interest” in the shooting investigation, according to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
He was appointed a public defender in court Wednesday and is currently charged with evading police, vehicle theft, receiving known stolen property, driving with a suspended license and drug paraphernalia possession. His arrest followed a high-speed chase from Lodi to Sacramento on an allegedly stolen motorcycle.
He has not been charged in relation to the homicide.
Hewitt said no further information is being released right now due to the ongoing investigation.
