West Point robbery suspect remains at large

A suspect in a Tuesday morning West Point robbery remains at large and is considered to be armed and dangerous.

The man is described as 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 inches tall and in his early 20s. He was dressed in all black with a ski mask, a skeleton bandana and a long sleeved shirt, according to a Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office report.

The incident happened about 8:30 a.m. at a business on the 22000 block of Highway 26. The suspect pointed a gun at a female employee as she opened the business and told her to empty her pockets and place her personal belongings into a black duffle bag, the report said.

The business was ransacked and an undisclosed amount of money was stolen before the suspect fled on foot toward Main Street, the report said.

West Point Elementary School was temporarily locked down while sheriff’s deputies checked the area, according to the report.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office at 754-6500 or the tip line at 754-6030.
