Angels Camp is going to fix the leaking Lee Lane water line.
Lee Lane is an old, narrow city street stretching between Bret Harte High School campus and Angels Camp Family Medical Center parking lot.
Part of the lane is lined with hand-built stone walls and the seven homes along the street were originally built for members of the Lee family.
The old, 2-inch private water line serving the seven houses was scheduled for replacement in 2007, but it is leaking under the high school parking lot, and City Administrator Tim Shearer told city council members Tuesday that repairing the line was not possible without tearing up the parking lot.
The council unanimously approved spending $98,562 to replace 530 feet of the 2-inch line with a regular 6-inch main and add a fire hydrant.
The property owners will pay to hook their lateral lines to the main and hook up to the city meters that are also being installed, Shearer said.
