A garage attached to a Valley Springs home was damaged after it caught fire Monday morning.
About 20 percent of the outbuilding was destroyed, resulting in an estimated loss of $25,000, Calaveras Consolidated Deputy Fire Chief Jason Robitaille said.
The blaze on the 7900 block of Savage Way was reported at 11:08 a.m. and contained about 10 minutes later, fire officials said.
“Upon our arrival, it had heavy smoke and fire showing on one side of the building,” Robitaille said.
He said the first Calaveras Consolidated Fire engine that responded extinguished the portion of the structure with the most involvement within two minutes, which saved the majority of the building and its contents.
A race car and a boat were among the items saved, Robitaille said.
Calaveras Consolidated responded with two engines, a chief officer and a water tender. San Andreas Fire Protection District also responded with an engine and a water tender.
The incident was closed at 12:50 p.m., and no injuries were reported.
The cause is still under investigation, but fire officials have not ruled out faulty electrical wiring, Robitaille said.
