The cause of Monday’s dramatic fire in Valley Springs, which destroyed one home and burned several acres of land, is still under investigation, according to Cal Fire.
Battalion Chief Matt Gilbert said Cal Fire is still interviewing witnesses. He expects to release findings later this week.
The fire started around 12:28 p.m. behind Treosti Place and McCauley Road. As it spread, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department issued a mandatory evacuation order for the area.
The fire burned one home entirely, but hit no other structures.
It was contained to 5 to 7 acres by Cal Fire and Calaveras Consolidated Fire Authority.
