Two men injured in Jamestown accident

A Jamestown man and his grandfather were taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of moderate injuries they suffered in a solo vehicle accident Monday morning on Highway 108 near Hurst Ranch.

The accident, reported about 8:56 a.m., occurred when Lucas Shelton, 18, of Jamestown, lost control of his blue Buick Riviera while traveling north on Highway 108 and it went off an embankment on the side of the road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Elliott Lopez.

The Buick came to rest on its right side, initially pinning passenger Val Lauber, 79, of Jamestown, inside the vehicle. Witnesses at the scene said they helped Shelton pull Lauber from the car through its driver's side window.

Shelton and Lauber were taken from the scene by ambulance to Sonora Regional Medical Center, where CHP said crews were preparing to transport one of them by helicopter to a Modesto hospital.
