Tuolumne County law enforcement officials surrounded a home in Tuolumne township Wednesday night and arrested a fugitive wanted on weapons charges.
Dean Ray Bennett, 49, was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail on two warrant holds and new felony charges of being a felon in possession of firearms and weapons, and also drug possession. His bail is set at $215,000.
Bennett was arrested after he surrendered to Sheriff’s deputies at a home on 18900 block of Birch Street.
A search of the home yielded a sawed-off shotgun with a sling full of shotgun shells, a walking cane concealing a knife, a large amount of ammunition, methamphetamine, and glass methamphetamine smoking pipes, according to a Sonora Police Department report.
The homeowner, Bennett’s girlfriend, Janice Edens, 58, was also arrested Wednesday on a charge of harboring a felon, said police.
Edens posted $10,000 bail at 2 a.m. today, according to jail officials.
Sonora police said the arrests were a product of a search warrant bust last April.
