A candlelight nativity procession made its way down Main Street in Columbia last night, as Mary and Joseph, played by Trisha Crawford of Avery and Bill Prindle of Columbia, sought shelter for Mary to give birth. The re-enactment had an added twist, as the soon-to-be parents were rejected by Gold Rush era miners in addition to an inn owner. As a crowd — holding candles to light the path for Mary and Joseph — watched, the couple made their way down the street on a donkey, guided by an angel. After finding rest in a a manger, gifts were bestowed on Jesus by three wise men, and members of the crowd were invited to step up and adore the baby Jesus. After finding rest in a manger, Trisha Crawford of Avery, in the role of Mary, holds the baby Jesus, played by 2-month-old Samuel Rosen of Murphys.
