The birds and the bees

A bee enjoys mild temperatures while buzzing about some rosemary this week. The National Weather Service forecast is for more of the same — partly cloudy skies with areas of patchy fog and high temperatures in the 50s and 60s — through Thursday, except for a brief return to seasonable weather tonight and tomorrow. A chance of rain and higher-elevation snow is expected by tomorrow morning. The snow level is expected to dip to 5,500 feet tomorrow. Although most herbs do not take off until mid-May, winter hardy rosemary plants are flowering, and established lavender plants should begin blooming soon. Spring-like conditions have not fooled other herbs that grow well in the area. Mint, thyme and other favorites remain dormant.
