TUD will appoint Grinnell successor

The Tuolumne Utilities District Board of Directors has decided to appoint a new member of the board, rather than hold a special election or allow the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors to appoint a member.

TUD General Manager Pete Kampa said the district board agreed Tuesday to accept applications from the public to fill the seat left vacant by Jim Grinnell, who resigned June 8 due to health reasons.

Kampa said the district will accept applications until July 5, with the plan of deciding the next step at a July 9 meeting of the Board of Directors. The board will move at that point to appoint a new director or lay out a process for considering and interviewing possible candidates.

“They want to do it as quickly as possible,” Kampa said.

Appointing a director is one of three options the board has for filling the open seat. It could also hold a special election or allow the county Board of Supervisors to appoint someone.

Grinnell was elected to the board in November in a TUD leadership purge, wherein four of five incumbents were replaced on the board.
