A Sonora woman was booked into Tuolumne County Jail on vehicle theft and drug charges Wednesday after allegedly stealing a BMW convertible from a motel parking lot on Green Street.
The owner of the car — who works in the area — left it in a hotel parking lot with the keys in the ignition.
He reported it stolen at 9:35 a.m.Wednesday. Five minutes later, an officer spotted the car traveling south on South Washington Street.
The driver pulled the car into the driveway of a home on the 1200 block of South Washington Street and then stopped. The officer took the driver, Amy Munoz, 35, into custody.
She was found in possession of methamphetamine, syringes and other drug paraphernalia, police said.
Munoz was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for suspicion of felony auto theft, felony possession of stolen property, felony transporting of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Munoz’s bail was set at $10,000.
