Summerville stadium pricetag grows by $1M

The Summerville Union High School District’s bond-funded stadium project could cost $1 million more than projected, and may not be completed before the start of football season, district board members were told Wednesday.

The board met in a specially arranged meeting with contractor Robert Boyer and a representative of the architecture firm BCA. Boyer updated the board on initial bids for specific parts of the stadium project, which includes a new football/soccer field, track and bleachers.

He said that, as the project got closer to construction, certain hurdles have come to light that will add to the project’s cost and timeframe.

The stadium project was supposed to be finished by this fall’s football season for an estimated $3.2 million.

The price is now estimated at $4.2 million and there was significant talk Wednesday about not making the deadline of this football season.

The project will be paid for out of 2012’s voter-approved $8 million bond measure, Measure H.
