Students paint water barrels

Students and adults worked together in Twain Harte to begin collecting rainwater and publicize the importance of conserving water during the drought.

Twain Harte Community Services District gave a project to Twain Harte School students: Paint nine water barrels to be put under local businesses’ downspouts and catch rainwater.

THCSD donated the nine primed, 55-gallon drums — one for each class, kindergarten through eighth grade. Each class came up with a slogan, such as the third-graders’ “Stop the Drop” and fifth-graders’ “Keep Calm and Conserve.”

Then they painted.

Twain Harte Lumber and Kelly-Moore Paints in Sonora donated the paint, and the students spent the day on Friday painting the barrels with their classmates. Most all students in every grade participated, according to Principal Dan Mayers.
