Stabbing victim in stable condition

By AMY LINDBLOM

A 33-year-old Glencoe man is in stable condition this morning at a Modesto hospital after being stabbed by a 17-year-old boy while the two were playing a video game, the sheriff's department said.

Calaveras County Sheriff Capt. Michael Walker said Jayson Tate was airlifted to Doctor's Medical Center in Modesto with a stab wound to his abdomen.

The boy, who Walker described as a friend of Tate's, was arrested by deputies and booked into the juvenile probation department on suspicion of attempted murder.

Walker said Tate and the boy were arguing over a computer when the stabbing occurred about 2 a.m. today at Tate's house on the 800 block of Sourdough Road.

Tate's mother called 911, according to the sheriff's department call log.

"We have a detective at the hospital this morning trying to talk to Tate, but we haven't heard anything back yet," Walker said.

Walker said he did not know where the boy attended school and would not release any other details about him.
