Sonora logger killed in Rim Fire area

A Sonora logger was killed by a falling tree limb while working in the Rim Fire burn area on Thursday.

Chris Tomasovich, 48, was falling timber for a private contractor in the burn area. Part of a tree fell and inflicted fatal injuries on him around 8 a.m., according to the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office.

He was declared dead on the scene near Cottonwood Road and Forest Road 1N84 after sheriff's deputies, Tuolumne County Fire, Tuolumne County Ambulance, PHI Air Ambulance and U.S. Forest Service members responded.

The Sheriff's Office and California Occupational Health and Safety Administration are both investigating the incident.
