The Sonora City Council will consider awarding a contract to the lowest bidder for a waterproofing project of the Sonora Police Department building at Monday’s meeting.
City Engineer Gerard Fuccillo is recommending the council award the $131,415 contract to San Francisco-based Rainbow Waterproofing, which placed the lowest of four bids.
The project consists of coating the roof of the facility at 100 S. Green St., as well as parapet cap and overflow scupper work, waterproofing the exterior and basement walls in the garage structure and painting the interior basement level and exterior walls along Linoberg Street.
Water leaks have caused damage to Sonora Police Department facilities and equipment in recent years. A project that waterproofed portions of the roof and refurbished the exterior of the building was completed last year.
The project was originally budgeted at $150,000.
At Monday’s meeting, the council will also consider adopting an ordinance that would amend the city’s municipal code to allow buildings to exceed 35 feet in height in certain commercial zones through the conditional use permit process.
The ordinance passed unanimously at the council’s last meeting on Sept. 4.
