Snow on the horizon? |
More rain could arrive in the Mother Lode as early as Friday, the National Weather Service says. The forecast calls for a slight chance of showers Friday night into Saturday, but NWS Sacramento meteorologist Jason Clapp said that is expected to be pretty much a non-event, with little or no measurable precipitation. The chance of rain in Sonora and Angels Camp is 30 percent. The snow level Friday night and Saturday is expected to be around 6,000 feet. Another storm expected to arrive late Sunday into Monday could bring measurable snow as low as 3,000 feet and add to the Sierra snowpack, Clapp said. California water managers said Sierra Nevada snow levels were just 37 percent of normal on Feb. 1. Tuolumne Utilities District officials plan to ask their board of directors on Feb. 14 to institute voluntary water conservation measures and may ask them to go to mandatory conservation if the water outlook doesn’t change.
