Slashing hitchhiker sought

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man and woman who were hitchhiking in Jamestown Friday afternoon, after the man pulled a knife on the driver who picked them up.

The male hitchhiker swung his pocket knife at the driver, 30-year-old Brandon Lee, of Sonora, causing a laceration on his hand, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Around 2:49 p.m., Lee picked the two up near Eighth Street and Eighth Avenue, near Railtown 1897 State Park.

He drove the suspects about a quarter mile before the male passenger asked him to pull over and accused him of soliciting someone for sex, according to Sheriff’s Office dispatch logs.

When Lee denied the accusation, the man pulled out the knife and cut Lee’s hand, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Dispatch logs stated that Lee ran from the vehicle and the suspects took off with his 1995 gold Honda Accord and his wallet, heading down Eighth Street.

The vehicle was found abandoned on Eighth Street.

Lee received medical attention for his wound and told officers he did not know the suspects.
