The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team and other agencies so far have been unable to locate a man who dove into an inlet above Pinecrest Lake over the weekend and never resurfaced.
A 26-year-old man, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, dove into the water at Cleo’s Bath about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
He was with about 10 friends, none local, who did not see him resurface and called the Sheriff’s Office.
The search and rescue team arrived by 2:50 p.m. with a helicopter, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Johnson.
The team members and representatives of the Tuolumne County Fire Department and U.S. Forest Service conducted a search, but did not find him.
Johnson said additional searches will be conducted as the water level lowers, allowing for a safer search for divers. This could be weeks, or months, he added.
The man, whose name is not being released pending contact with his family, is stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Solano County.
