The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing Mokelumne Hill man.
Duane M. Gates, 79, was last seen about 5 p.m. Saturday by his caregiver. He was having dinner when the caregiver left his home, on the 300 block of Montgomery Drive, according to a relative.
The retired Walnut Creek salesman was reported missing the next day by his son, Michael Gates, of Rancho Cordova.
Gates said his father, a county resident for nearly 20 years, suffers from asthma. The Sheriff’s Department considers him to be “at risk” because of his asthma and slight dementia.
A Calaveras County search-and-rescue team and search dogs yesterday and this morning were in the area looking for him. The department planned to get a helicopter to aid in the search today.
He is described as being 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. He has gray hair and brown eyes, and was last seen wearing a gray long-sleeved V-neck sweater and black pants.
His favorite destination is Raley’s Market in Jackson, according to Sheriff’s Department officials.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at 754-6500.O
