When the Columbia Foot Dragoons gathered for battle over the weekend, buffoonery quickly followed. The Dragoons, a group of volunteer "soldiers" who re-enact the roles of the original Columbia militia, which served from 1850-1857, take a lighthearted look at the life of the original militia men. During their performance, they demonstrated saber drills, the firing of black powder rifles, and other forms of battle, led songs and taught young volunteers how to salute. The Dragoons finished the evening by fighting "The Battle of Sawmill Flat," thus saving the residents of Sawmill Flat from their enemy, Joaquin Murrieta. Black powder rifles are fired in the battle against Murrieta.
