Ramped up water saving eyed by GCSD

The Groveland Community Services District board will hold a special meeting Tuesday to consider implementing mandatory water restrictions.

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has already asked customers to reduce their water usage by 10 percent. GCSD, a customer of SFPUC, expects the reduction goal will increase to 20 percent in the near future.

GCSD previously did not have an ordinance for emergency water restrictions.

The proposed ordinance would define four separate phases of water conservation, depending on the severity of the situation.

Phase 1 would be in place at all times and ask for ongoing water conservation from customers.

Phase 2 asks customers to voluntarily reduce their use by 10 percent.

Phase 3 enacts mandatory restrictions to cut use by 20 percent, including fines and penalties associated with excessive water use.
