Stuart Raggio has resigned from the Angels Camp City Council because he no longer lives within the city limits, as required.
Council members are scheduled to formally accept his resignation at Tuesday’s meeting, and discuss how the vacancy will be filled.
In a Feb. 19 letter, Raggio said his resignation is effective Feb. 28.
“As of this date I will no longer reside in the City of Angels and therefore do not meet residency qualifications for the City Council position,” he wrote. “It has been my honor to serve the citizens of Angels Camp.”
Raggio’s four-year term lasts until the end of this year.
State law gives the council 60 days to either fill the vacancy by appointment or call for a special election.
PUBLIC MEETING: Angels Camp City Council, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Angels Fire House, 1404 Vallecito Road, Angels Camp.
