A 52-year-old Jenny Lind Elementary School teacher was arrested late Friday afternoon on suspicion of using a concealed camera to photograph children.
Two Calaveras County sheriff's detectives arrested Wesley Earle Levi at Sacramento International Airport, as he was returning to California from Idaho. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department assisted in the arrest.
A person "unassociated with the school" recently contacted the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department and reported seeing photographs of children that Levi had taken, Sheriff's Capt. Mike Walker said. Walker said Levi had taken pictures of clothed children, but intended to use them to "sexually arouse himself."
Warrants were issued to search Levi's Valley Springs residence and his Jenny Lind classroom. Walker would not say whether pictures were found at either place, and would not say what if any connection the children have to Levi.
Levi was taken to Calaveras County Jail, and posted $10,000 bail Friday evening.
These are not the first charges involving children and questionable photographs in the foothills.
Two Sierra Conservation Center guards face allegations that they either had child pornography or showed porn to children.
Last month, SCC officer Robert Patrick Icenogle of Sonora was arrested for allegedly showing child porn to young girls and fondling at least one 11-year-old girl. He faces seven felony counts and two misdemeanor counts in Tuolumne County Superior Court.
Levi's case remains under investigation and additional charges against him may follow, sheriff officials said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Calaveras County Sheriff's Department Detective Chris Villegas at 772-2553.
