Tuolumne County officials will continue to lower the sale price for the former Mother Lode Medical Center as the county continues to seek a buyer for the property.
The county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted 4-0 to set the minimum bid price for the vacant, county-owned land at $900,000. That price is $50,000 lower than a minimum bid price proposed in November and represents a $250,000 decrease in value from its highest list price more than a year ago.
Daniel Richardson, a deputy county administrator, said the property’s decreased value “mirrors the lagging economy that we’ve had during this time.”
The 1.28 acre property at 22044 Cedar Road in Sonora went out to bid on Nov. 29 with the county eying a sale price of at least $950,000. But no bids came in, so the county must again reduce the price, Richardson said.
The county also solicited bids in April 2011 and October 2012, with the initial list price set at $1.15 million. The only bidder so far has been Mi-Wuk Indian Health Center, but the property negotiations lasted long enough to require a new appraisal.
Since then, the county has replaced the roof. A walkway at the former medical center will also require improvement.
