Developers of a planned lodge and resort near the Yosemite entrance on Highway 120, called the Rush Creek Lodge, are seeking a large loan through the federal Community Development Block Grant program to get the project off the ground.
Rush Creek dates back to 2004 when Tuolumne County approved the plan to build a hotel, restaurant and conference center off of Highway 120 at Hardin Flat Road.
The project has been idle since then, but the ownership group that built the Evergreen Lodge just outside of Yosemite National Park is looking to move it forward, said Mike Laird, deputy director of the Tuolumne County Community Resources Agency.
The county will sponsor the project for up to $3 million in loan money through the CDBG, a federal anti-poverty program that allows for loans to such projects for economic development purposes.
If it moves forward as planned, Rush Creek Resort will include 143 lodging units, a restaurant and bar, a swimming pool, gift shop, conference space, and a collection of cabins.
The project would also include some employee housing.
According to the plans submitted to the Community Resources Agency, the developers completed the state environmental approval process in 2004. But because they are seeking a federal grant, they also need to finalize the same approvals with the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
Developers involved include Gerald Fischer of the Yosemite Management Group, which runs multiple motels in Mariposa County, and leadership with the Evergreen Lodge near the proposal site.
An inquiry with the Evergreen Lodge was not returned in time for this story.
