No arrests in throat slitting incident

Authorities have not made any arrests in connection with a Christmas Eve throat slitting in Tuolumne.

According to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, a woman called Cal Fire from Carter Street about 11:30 p.m. Monday saying she grabbed a knife and cut her boyfriend’s throat during a domestic dispute.

However, she has since been “determined not to be the aggressor,” according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Wilson.

“That’s why there’s not an arrest there,” he said. “As far as the victim is concerned … he’s actually the suspect.”

Wilson said the man had not been arrested as of Thursday afternoon because he was in critical condition at a hospital.

The man was airlifted from Sonora Regional Medical Center to a facility outside Tuolumne County immediately after the incident, according to Wilson, adding that he could not disclose the location.

The man was in stable condition Thursday, Wilson said.

The woman, who identified herself to dispatchers only as “Chaedel,” said she slit her boyfriend’s throat because he attacked her during the dispute, according to sheriff’s records.

Wilson said the couple has a history of domestic violence.

He declined to release further information about the incident Thursday.

“Because of the nature of that one, I can’t really talk about it,” he said. “I’m not really sure where this is going to go legally.”
