A Twain Harte woman accused of killing Sonora man Rick Roberts in February waived her right on Wednesday to a preliminary hearing in Tuolumne County Superior Court.
Cheryl Lynn Lucero, 45, appeared with her public defender, Clay Bedford, and decided to forgo the hearing that requires prosecutors to establish probable cause to proceed with their charges.
Deputy District Attorney Laura Krieg appeared for the people and boldly stated for the record that Lucero would still answer to the charge of willful and premeditated murder.
Tuolumne County District Attorney Mike Knowles and Public Defender Robert Price declined to comment on the case.
Price said the public must wait until the trial for the details of the case to be divulged.
There have been instances where murder suspects agree to a plea bargain, after which the facts of the case are not publicly disputed.
Lucero’s next appearance for the pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8.
