The Tuolumne resident foiled Coyote Sam’s plot to ruin Tuolumne County’s annual Mother’s Day weekend event, finding a hidden water rights certificate Monday.
The certificate was deemed crucial for Saturday and Sunday’s parade, rodeo and Mother’s Day breakfast. Sam and his band of desperadoes made off with the document almost two weeks ago in a mock shootout.
Tipped off by a string of clues made public thanks to a turncoat in Sam’s crew, Archer found the certificate hidden underground in an empty lot off of the Sanguinetti Loop in Sonora. She received a $200 reward from The Union Democrat for her efforts.
“I saw this pile,” Archer said of her search. “I moved the rocks and started digging and there it was. I was so excited.”
Archer, who works at Black Oak Casino Resort in human resources, said she and a group of coworkers at Black Oak Casino Resort have searched for each year’s Roundup treasure for about seven years.
