Clerks at 10 stores around Tuolumne County stand accused of selling liquor to minors.
One of the clerks is suspected of selling beer twice within two hours to two different teens acting as decoys during a Friday-night sting operation by the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department and state Alcoholic Beverage Control, sheriff's Lt. John Steely said.
Two boys and a girl, all age 18 and using their own unaltered identification, were given money and told to buy beer at 20 different stores throughout the county.
When they were successful, they gave the liquor to an ABC agent or sheriff's deputy stationed outside the store. The agent or deputy then went in with the liquor, confronted the clerk and wrote up a misdemeanor citation.
The citations have been forwarded to the Tuolumne County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
