Maynord’s is seeking to expand

An addiction treatment facility in Tuolumne is seeking permission from the county to expand, though some of the neighbors are not thrilled.

On Wednesday, Maynord’s Recovery Center will approach the Tuolumne County Planning Commission for a permit to add a 1,200-square-foot home to its Dove Ridge Home facility. The Cherokee Road home is a clean and sober residential facility for people in addiction treatment.

The addition, according to the county’s Community Resources Agency, would be a three-bedroom house that could hold up to nine people. The recovery center currently has room for about 30 patients, with clinical and counseling services in a 30-day program.

According to Planning Commission meeting documents, the county notified nearby property owners of the proposal and received multiple concerns including safety concerns over the home’s proximity to other houses.

However, according to Community Resources, Maynord’s has policies preventing violent and sex offenders from entering the program and also has good-standing certifications and screening.

The home is meant to “provide an atmosphere that affords privacy, anonymity and discretion for the resident,” according to a memo from Community Resources to the commission.

Residents will have an opportunity to speak at the Planning Commission meeting, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday in the fourth floor Board of Supervisors chambers at 2 S. Green St. in Sonora.

Also on Wednesday’s agenda is a proposal to allow the Mountain Oaks School in Pinecrest to use the lodge and play equipment at the Strawberry Ridge Retreat for school functions.
