A Twain Harte man died early yesterday when his Jeep overturned on Middlecamp Road in the Twain Harte area.
Joseph Palmer, 24, was driving west near Kit Carson Drive about 3 a.m. when his 1998 Jeep drifted left into the eastbound lane as he rounded a curve in the road, according to a California Highway Patrol report. The CHP said the Jeep's speed at the time of the accident is unknown.
The Jeep turned back to the right and ran off the road, hitting a dirt embankment and overturning, the CHP said.
Palmer wasn't wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, which rolled on top of him, the CHP said. He died at the scene.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, said CHP Officer Brad Schultz.
With Palmer's death, 31 people have been killed on Tuolumne County roads this year 10 more than in all of 2002.
Statewide, 31 people died in traffic accidents between the start of the holiday weekend, which officially ran from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. yesterday.
