Man accused in attack with stun gun

By AMY LINDBLOM

Accused of assaulting a neighbor with a stun gun, a 64-year-old Jenny Lind man is in the Calaveras County Jail in lieu of $85,000 bail.

Alva Lawrence Mouser was to be arraigned this afternoon in Calaveras County Superior Court on charges of assault with a stun gun, burglary and resisting arrest.

Capt. Mike Walker of the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department said Mouser was arrested around noon Saturday after a 33-year-old neighbor reported Mouser forced his way into her home on the 8800 block of Columbus Street and shocked her with a stun gun.

Walker gave this account based on what the victim told him:

Mouser first called the woman on the telephone pretending to be someone else. After she hung up the phone, her 14-year-old son said Mouser was outside yelling at him.

Mouser came to the woman's door, and as she tried to shut the door, he reached in and shocked her on her right arm with the stun gun.

The victim told deputies that Mouser then forced his way into the house and shocked the woman three or four more times on her right thigh. The son witnessed the assault, and ran out of the house when Mouser allegedly threatened him.

The woman then barricaded herself in her bedroom until Mouser left and called 911 when Mouser went home.

Deputies had a sheriff's dispatcher telephone Mouser and convince him to go outside, where he was arrested after resisting briefly. Deputies found a stun gun inside Mouser's house.

"The man was extremely agitated the entire time the deputies were trying to get him to surrender," Walker said.

Walker said there is no indication of any previous trouble between Mouser and the neighbor, and he does not know what prompted the attack.

The woman told deputies she did not need medical attention.
