Lode woman first to greet Beatles in U.S. |
Here’s a quick one for all of those Trivial Pursuit fans: Name the first person to greet The Beatles upon their initial arrival in the United States. The answer? San Andreas resident Charlie Andrews, 67, then a passenger services representative for Pan American World Airways. That Andrews was there at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Feb. 7, 1964, is remarkable. The kicker, though: she did not really even have a clue who the four lads from Liverpool were. A day before the Fab Four were scheduled to come, Andrews’ supervisor at Pan Am had told her to start her shift early the next day. Flight 101 would be coming at 1:30 p.m., prior to her typical 3 p.m. start. For the full story, see today's Union Democrat. |
