It was 50 years ago Sunday that the Beatles were introduced to a mass American audience.
Kay Crow, of Groveland, now 65, sits among her Beatles memorabilia. Maggie Beck / Union Democrat, Copyright 2014.
The band’s appearance on the “Ed Sullivan Show” on Feb. 9, 1964, was watched by an estimated 73 million U.S. households.
American teens from California to Maine went wild. But few were as awestruck as Groveland’s Kay Zar Crow.
The performance galvanized the teeny-bopper Crow and her closest friends’ resolve to meet the Fab Four themselves.
They followed the band relentlessly during their brief concert visit to the Los Angeles area later that year. So over-the-top was their campaign, it landed them on the covers of newspapers and magazines, and even managed to get her introduced to the band.
