Directors of two more Tuolumne County service districts voted this week to raise sewer rates.
Jamestown Sanitary District and Twain Harte Community Services District customers will see the increases on their bills later this summer.
Jamestown directors Monday voted to hike monthly sewer charges from $19 to $23.75 per home. Twain Harte Community Services District directors voted last night to raise rates from $15 to $25 per month.
Twain Harte directors raised monthly water rates, as well, from $17 to $25 per home.
Directors on both boards followed Tuolumne Utilities District directors' lead, after they adopted sewer rate increases last month. Jamestown and Twain Harte districts each depend on TUD to help handle sewage and had to pass on costs to their customers.
THCSD raised water rates to cover increased expenses and an anticipated TUD water rate hike early next year.
Groveland Community Services District also raised sewer rates Monday, but those new prices were to cover higher district expenses. Groveland does depend on TUD for sewage treatment or transfer.
Neither the Jamestown nor the Twain Harte meetings drew much protest. In fact, the gallery was empty when Jamestown directors cast their votes.
"There were some inquiries once we sent out the letter," said JSD Operations Manager Ron Boyd-Snee. "But there was no written response to the public hearing, nor was there anyone who showed up."
About 20 people were at the Twain Harte meeting.
Some criticized the Twain Harte board for not releasing enough information about the hike or not raising in several more gradual steps.
"Could we have done this better? Perhaps," THCSD General Manager Don Kasso said. "But we don't feel like we've slammed it down anybody's throat."
