Input on bike, ped paths sought

The Tuolumne County Transportation Council announced last week it will allocate $575,000 on projects dedicated to pedestrian and bicycle use.

The TCTC will accept proposals for spending the funds through March 3.

The TCTC, a joint agency run by the city and Tuolumne County that handles roads, trails and public transit issues and projects, will decide which project or projects will get the money.

Darin Grossi, the TCTC’s executive director, said they are looking for proposals that align with “community plans” that have already been vetted by community members. He pointed to a recent plan in Tuolumne township, which identified alleyway and walkway improvements, as one example.

“We’re looking for projects that … have community support and are ready to move forward,” Grossi said.

He also said TCTC leadership would look for proposals that could relieve congestion, improve quality of life and show some economic benefits.

For instance, a sidewalk improvement project in Jamestown will connect the downtown core with the elementary school and Railtown 1897 State Historic park, which planners have said would achieve all those goals.

“We do look for projects that will have … a high impact on quality of life and economic benefits,” Grossi said.
