A Sonora High School student continues to recover from a broken neck and his family is bustling to prepare for his homecoming after more than six weeks at a Sacramento hospital.
Nicholas “Nick” Harris, 17, of Sonora, is scheduled to return to the Sonora area on Friday from Shriners Hospital.
Harris broke his neck on June 27 when he dove from the shoreline into New Melones Reservoir.
He said on Sunday that he misses his friends and the life he had before the accident and is anxious to get out of the hospital.
The extent of his injuries is still unknown. Harris began to feel sensation in his legs and toes last week. He still awaits the day he will move his hands and fingers but he is hopeful he will make a full recovery, although doctors said it could take several years for a full prognosis on his injuries.
“I will walk again,” Harris said.
