Human remains found at Shermantine property

Law enforcement officials report they have found human remains at the family home of a convicted serial killer near San Andreas.

A human skull was discovered this morning at the Leonard Road property formerly owned but the parents of Wesley H. Shermantine.

San Joaquin and Calaveras County Sheriff's deputies with K-9 units from the Santa Clara Police Department found the remains about 10:45 a.m.

Today is the second consecutive day authorities searched the area using maps drawn by Shermantine from his death row prison cell.

Letters from Shermantine indicate the remains may be those of either Cyndi Vanderheiden and Chevelle "Chevy" Wheeler, both of whom he was convicted of killing.
