Home and Garden Show this weekend

Nearly 100 vendors will flock to the Mother Lode Fairgrounds this weekend to help homeowners with their spring projects.

The 32nd annual Home and Garden Show, sponsored by The Union Democrat. will feature contractors, interior designers, real-estate agents, gardeners and other home-improvement experts.

Some will offer demonstrations, discounted prices and giveaways.

“It’s a time of year when people are starting to think about fixing up their homes,” said show coordinator Peggy Pietrowicz.

About a dozen new exhibitors joined the event this year, including Gunter Painting, Kelly Moore Paint Co., Longson Document and Paper Shredding, Sonora Ford, Sonora Sleepworks & More and Jana’s Coffee Can.

The vendors will be spread throughout the fairgrounds in the John Muir, Sierra, Manzanita and Creekside buildings and outside.

Service organizations will also have booths at the event.

The Sonora Chamber of Commerce will serve beer and wine in the Muir Garden with proceeds benefiting scholarships. This is the first year alcohol will be served at the show.

The Kiwanis Club of Sonora will offer hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, tri-tip, polish sausages and baked potatoes.

The Kiwanis Club of Groveland will provide other options including burritos, nachos, corn dogs and soft pretzels.

Food sales from both Kiwanis Clubs will support community projects.

Businesses such as Jana’s Coffee Can, Mi-Wuk Kettle Corn and the Lemonade Yard will also sell food and drinks.

The family-friendly event usually attracts between 8,000 and 10,000 people, and Pietrowicz expects the warm, sunny weather to fuel attendance.

The show is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Admission and parking are free.

Fairground parking usually fills up before noon each day, but a free shuttle will transport people from The Junction shopping center to the fairgrounds.
