Deputy benefits, pay up for vote

Calaveras County administrators and the Deputy Sheriff's Association have reached an agreement that would set deputies' salaries, raises and benefits for the next three years.

And county supervisors tonight will consider approving the pact.

The proposed plan gives deputies three 5 percent raises. The first raise would come Aug. 1, the second July 1, 2004, and the third July 1, 2005.

The county would also increase its contributions to deputies' state retirement funds by 2 percent starting in August.

Additionally, the county would boost its contribution to some deputies' health insurance coverage.

Francine Osborn, the county's director of human resources and risk management, in a memo to supervisors said the agreement would cost the county $613,332 over the next three years.
