A Democrat has filed the required paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in California’s 4th Congressional District, which encompasses both Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.
Kris Johnson, of Granite Bay, will challenge Republican incumbent Congressman Tom McClintock, who maintains an office in Granite Bay and resides outside of the district in Elk Grove.
McClintock handily defeated Democratic opponent Jack Uppal in the November 2012 election with 61 percent of the vote. The Republican-dominated 4th Congressional District was redrawn in 2011 to include 10 counties stretching south from Truckee to the Sequoia National Forest.
Johnson has lived in Northern California for the past 25 years. She was born in Wisconsin and grew up in the Chicago area, according to her campaign website.
Her private-sector experience includes jobs working for companies such as Amoco Oil, 3M Company and Intel Corporation. She also co-founded a specialty computer company after moving to Northern California, but has since sold her interest.
