Dearden shifted to new Sonora High role

The Sonora Union High School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday created a “Director of Special Projects and Programs” position and appointed Principal Todd Dearden to it.

Associate Principal Patrick Chabot was appointed as interim principal for the rest of the spring semester, effective Jan. 27.

Superintendent Mike McCoy said this position as an interface between school operation and construction and, in answer to a question from a member of the public,  said it had been discussed since the beginning of planning the Measure J bond projects.

McCoy said Dearden, a seven-year Sonora High School administrator, has a solid background managing more than $11 million in school construction projects at the Monterey County school district where he formerly worked.

“Todd has been invaluable in our design work this spring for our Measure J projects,” McCoy wrote in a statement. “As an educator, he is able to connect the dots between construction, teachers, coaches and the community.”
