Tuolumne County Sheriff's investigators are looking for a Columbia-area parolee wanted for questioning about a young Sonora woman who was shot and killed Sunday afternoon.
Jennifer Lynn Coons, 21, of the 600 block of South Stewart Street, Sonora, died at Tuolumne General Hospital on Sunday from a single gunshot wound to her chest.
Investigators want to talk to Kristopher Lee McDaniel, 30, in connection with the shooting, said Tuolumne County Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Harrison. McDaniel is wanted for unrelated parole violations, but Harrison declined to give more details.
About 2 p.m. Sunday, Coons flagged down a driver, Jerry C. Coey, along a Columbia road that investigators will not name and told him she had been shot.
Coey took Coons to TGH, where she died a short time later. She was identified late Monday night through fingerprints taken when she was arrested in August on suspicion of possessing a switchblade knife and a narcotics warrant from Amador County, the sheriff's department said.
Investigators talked with Coey on Sunday afternoon, after Coons died, and he was later booked on a parole hold and remains at the Tuolumne County Jail without bail.
Harrison said McDaniel is considered dangerous, and anyone with information about him or his whereabouts is asked to call the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department at 533-5815 or Detective Kelvin Moses at 533-5828.
