Chance of rain early this week

A late spring storm is expected to blow through Central California today and tomorrow, bringing a chance of rain and lightning to the Mother Lode.

Tonight, the chance of precipitation stands at 20 percent in the Central Sierra foothills. A northwest wind of 5 to 11 mph is expected.

At the highest Central Sierra elevations, above 7,000 feet, the chance of rain increases to 40 percent.

Tuesday night, the chance of foothill rain increases to 50 percent. Above 7,000 feet, that could translate as slushy snow.

A slight chance of thunderstorms and rain is forecast through Wednesday until about 11 p.m.

Over the next two days, the daytime high temperature in the foothills is expected to range from the mid-60s to mid-70s. Overnight, temps will drop to the mid-40s.

Temperatures are expected to warm right back up the remainder of the week, through Memorial Day weekend.

Expect clear skies and temperatures in the mid- to high 80s Thursday through Sunday.
