Voters can hear discussions between a number of area political candidates on Thursday when the Tuolumne County Chamber of Commerce hosts a candidates’ night.
The forum will feature candidates for both District 1 and 5 of the county Board of Supervisors and for the four Tuolumne Utilities District seats that will be on the General Election ballot in November.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors chamber at the main county office building, 2 S. Green St., Sonora.
During the public forum, candidates will respond to questions from moderators and will also field pre-screened questions submitted by members of the audience.
The Board of Supervisors portion will likely last about 45 minutes for each race, said chamber President George Segarini. Incumbent Liz Bass faces Sherri Brennan in District 1, while Karl Rodefer and Domenic Torchia will face off in District 5.
District 5 incumbent Dick Pland is not seeking re-election.
The Tuolumne Utilities District portion of the evening could take longer, as that race features a crowded field of incumbents including Bob Behee, Ron Ringen and Dennis Dahlin, and challengers David Evans, Jim Grinnell, John Maciel, Michael Sarno, Kent Johnson and David Axelrod.
“It’ll go as long as we have to keep it going,” Segarini said.
The Chamber of Commerce does have a political action committee that will eventually endorse candidates, but those endorsement will be based on separate interviews between candidates and members of the committee, he said.
