PUBLIC MEETING: Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, 9 a.m. meeting, Government Center, 891 Mountain Ranch Road, San Andreas.
A construction cost index adjustment to the fee charged developers for road impacts brought on by new projects in Calaveras County will be considered Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.
Public Works Department staff have recommended an increase based on an index developed for the Engineering News Record, a leading trade publication. The fee would rise from $4,300 for each single-family residence or its equivalent to $4,429, an increase of 3 percent.
A staff report accompanying the agenda item shows the equivalent fee in Amador County is higher, at $6,380, while Calaveras asks more than Tuolumne County does in a tiered system of $4,100 fees for parcels of more than 2 acres and $3,034 for those smaller than 2 acres.
In a discussion of the matter by the board last month, Supervisor Tom Tryon said he favored the cost index increase as opposed to a possible freeze on the road impact mitigation fee while the county is attempting to complete an update to its general plan land-use document.
In other business, the board will take up proposed changes to the Calaveras Public Power Agency joint powers agreement in an item continued from the Nov. 27 meeting. The changes are designed to help the county and other government entities within its boundaries make better use of an energy allotment created as part of the agreement to dam the Stanislaus River for the New Melones project.
The board is also expected to approve the $99,505 purchase of a communications equipment shelter for use at the new jail and sheriff’s office site upon completion next summer and to create a voluntary employee payroll donation program to benefit the Calaveras Community Foundation. The nonprofit group has funded more than $200,000 in grants to local charities and community organizations in the past five years.
