This weekend’s storm, which could bring snow as low as 500 feet in elevation, has prompted emergency response crews to open three warming shelters in Calaveras County.
The shelters will be at First Congregational Church, 509 N. Algiers St. in Murphys; Community Covenant Church, 261 Treat Ave., in San Andreas; and West Point Community Hall, 22283 Highway 26.
The shelters will be open from 5 p.m. today until at least 5 p.m. Saturday.
The Calaveras County shelters join the warming shelter at the Tuolumne County Enrichment Center, formerly Adult Day Health Care, at 101 Hospital Road in Sonora.
Officials in both counties are warning residents to be prepared for the storm and possible power outages.
