Calaveras DA Yook to seek reelection

Despite winning last year’s election, Calaveras County District Attorney Barbara Yook will again be running in next year’s election.

Yook, 47, was appointed as DA by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors in September 2010 following the death of longtime DA Jeff Tuttle. She was appointed as the county’s top prosecutor until the next regularly scheduled election, which was in June 2012.

In that race, Yook received about two-thirds of the votes cast for DA, defeating challenger David Singer, a San Andreas attorney.

The DA represents the public in prosecuting criminal cases. Calaveras County’s DA oversees a staff of several attorneys, investigators, support staff and victim witness advocates.

There have been a number of high-profile killings this year in Calaveras County, starting with the slaying of an 8-year-old Valley Springs girl that drew national attention.
