A 25-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol has been named the new commander of the San Andreas CHP office.
Lt. Dewayne Lewis, of Sacramento, will oversee 27 employees who work the 2,000-square-mile jurisdiction.
As a lieutenant, Lewis has worked for the Contra Costa and South Sacramento CHP offices and the CHP Academy.
Before his promotion in 2008, he worked as a sergeant in the Los Banos, Napa and Woodland offices; CHP’s Emergency Notification and Tactical Alert Center; and the Office of Internal Affairs.
As an officer, Lewis worked in Santa Barbara, Indio and the CHP Academy in West Sacramento.
Lewis said he is looking forward to engaging in the communities in which he serves, according to a CHP statement.
He is replacing San Andreas Area Commander Lt. Josh Ehlers, who recently transferred to the CHP’s Sacramento headquarters to serve as administrative assistant to CHP Commander J.A. Farrow.
